MAPA Mission Statement: “To Inspire and Ensure Stewardship of the State parks in Mendocino County.”
An important part of the Mendocino Area Parks Association mission is to fund the interpreters and education programs for our local State Parks.
To accomplish this mission, MAPA, in partnership with the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) in Mendocino County, funds natural and cultural history programs in our local state Parks. Full-time and seasonal interpreters (experts who translate the language of nature to humans), and experienced docents provide various programs to a wide spectrum of ages.
See Program Calendar for:
- Jr. Rangers
- Campfire programs
- Nature Hikes
- Nature walks/talks
- Seasonal displays and exhibits
The MacKerricher Environmental Education Program is intended to assist educators in fostering a better understanding by their students of the natural dynamics of these areas while protecting this resource for future groups. Contact information and form.
- Ford House Museum Living History Field Trips: 2nd - 3rd grade.
Second and third graders have the opportunity to step back into time and relive the pioneer days by making their own biscuits, churning butter, washing clothes the pioneer way, and playing pioneer games. Other age groups will be considered, please contact Jim Owens, Ford House Manager, for more information.
